Central Utility Plant Upgrade with Room for Expansion
Denver International Airport (DEN) has grown to serve over 69 million passengers a year. In an effort to keep up with this growth, they commissioned Hensel Phelps to upgrade facilities and a legacy central utility plant (CUP).
As the electrical contractor on the project, IME’s scope of work included a phased construction project that replaced and upgraded all existing chillers and medium voltage electrical service components within the CUP, which serves seven buildings at DEN.
The completion of this project relied on heavy coordination between disciplines and customer departments to minimize downtime to essential systems. The new CUP has an 8.97-million-sq-ft service area capability to better serve DEN as it continues to expand its facilities in the future.
